FORECO Daily: Lungwort, before and after hydration

Lungwort (Lobaria pulmonaria) as we discovered it, in a high elevation rich northern hardwood site below Roan Mountain.

The same lungwort, about 2 minutes after we poured a little water on it. Lungwort is a lichen, combining green algae (activated on top) with cyanobacteria underneath. The presence of lungwort indicates healthy air quality; they also contain nitrogen-fixing bacteria. We have so much to learn from the amazing biodiversity in the world.
