Dr. Dan Pittillo (mentor, friend, and former professor at WCU) explains the odd genetics with yellow birch (Betula allegheniensis), which is a hexaploid with 42 sets of chromosomes, by a large example in the Flat Laurel Gap campground on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
