If you can get your hands on one, Art B. used to produce a beautiful and exquisitely detailed map that he has since taken down because he moved out of the area and was unable to keep it updated. Bull City Running used to carry them and the Friends of the MST organization has some as well (there have been changes to the route). You can also purchase a step-by-step trail guide to the Falls Lake section of the MST, or view the online trail guides on the Friends of the MST website.
The Mountains-to-Sea Trail is a wonderful resource that is not yet complete. I have run and/or hiked the section near Clingman’s Dome, the part that is the Shut-In Ridge Trail between Asheville and Mt. Pisgah, some of the route north of Asheville and the Tenawha Trail, the section between Pilot Mountain and Hanging Rock, some of Eno River and all 60 miles that are part of the Falls Lake Trail, and finally, the inner coastal section that is the Neusiok Trail. The story of completing the 60 mile Falls Lake section with my friend Joanna as a stage run can be found if you search the site with all posts tagged NERR.
