I wrote this for Blue Ridge Country in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act, as part of my mission to educate the public about the importance of conservation, wilderness, nature, and open space. Friends would not be surprised to hear that I struggled with the word limit–I had much, much more to say.
